Although it's still not on most travelers' radars just yet, Kyrgyzstan is blossoming into a great place for adventure travel. Now, a group called 40 Tribes is planning to host ski tours in the remote but stunning Kyrgyz mountains (h/t MatadorSports.com).  This is a great example of ethical travel: 40 Tribes strives to be environmentally friendly and takes measures to minimize their impact on the wild Kyrgyz backcountry.They also arrange homestays with local families and use local guides, providing a source of employment and funds. World Heritage Site of the Week: Get a Kyrgyzstan Visa to See the Sulamain-Too Sacred Mountain

UNESCO's World Heritage Sites are a collection of intriguing destinations from around the world.  According to the UNESCO website, the sites are selected to "to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity." Once a week, as part of our new "World Heritage Site of the Week" series, we will profile one of these sites and look at what you would need to travel there.
