Chinese Tourist Visa Requirements
January 31st, 2010
China is becoming a popular tourist destination-so much so, in fact, that it's hard to believe that most foreigners were shut out of the country until 1974. Since then, though, China's tourist industry has grown rapidly.
According to Wikipedia, in 1985 1.4 million people visited China, bringing in the equivalent of $1.3 billion. By 2006, that number had increased to 49.6 million visitors, making China the fourth most-visited country in the world. By 2020, the World Trade Organization predicts that the country will be the "largest tourist country in the world, and the fourth largest for overseas travel."
If you are an American citizen, a visa is required for you to visit China as a tourist. You will need to apply for a Chinese tourist visa, called an "L" visa, before you leave, as
Cameroon Visa Requirements For Dja Faunal Reserve
January 30th, 2010
This week's featured UNESCO World Heritage site is the Dja Faunal Reserve in Cameroon. The Reserve was first listed as a World Heritage site in 1987 for it's rich biodiversity. The UNESCO site calls it "one of the largest and best-protected rainforests in Africa, with 90% of its area left undisturbed."
Inside the reserve, you can find various types of primates, including monkeys, lowland gorillas and chimpanzees. Elephants, leopards and wild hogs roam the forest, while two threatened species of crocodile swim in the Dja River, which provides a natural border for the southern edge of the park .
The Dja Faunal Reserve is not just home to animals, however. People live there, too. In the forest, a small group of Pygmies lives a (mostly) traditional lifestyle.

Brazilian Tourist Visa Requirements for Carnaval
January 28th, 2010
It's almost that time of year again...in February, roughly 40 days before Easter, Brazil holds a massive party: Carnaval. In this mostly Catholic country, Carnaval is one last chance to let loose before the sacrifices of Lent.
Of course, you don't have to be Catholic to enjoy Carnaval. In Brazil's major cities, the event is celebrated by parades, costumes, samba dancing and partying in the streets. The types of music and parades differ from city to city, and the dates of the celebration may vary by a day or so as well. For example, Rio de Janeiro's Carnaval celebrations occur on a Monday, while Sao Paulo happen over a long weekend, from Friday to Sunday. So, make sure to do a little bit of research before you make your travel arrangements.

Kyrgyzstan Tourist Visa Requirements

Have you ever wanted to live the life of a true nomad? According to this post on the Matador Trip Network, in Kyrgyzstan you can do just that. The Matador writers watched a golden eagle hunt (and ate the resulting bounty for dinner), swam in the lake of Issyk Kul, and dined on local specialties like roasted yak. (I wonder if yak tastes like chicken? Nah, probably more like beef or venison.)
They also got to witness a "dead goat polo" match firsthand. Yes, "dead goat polo" is exactly what it sounds like: polo played on horseback with a dead goat instead of a ball.
For the piece de resistance, the Matador team lived in a yurt near Song Kol Lake and hung out with a local family. This sounded like a really neat experience, as long as you don't mind getting up close and personal with stran
Cape Verde Tourist Visa Requirements
January 24th, 2010
Cape Verde is a small country consisting of a chain of volcanic islands off the coast of Senegal. Although the country is relatively undeveloped, tourism is a growing industry. Access to Cape Verde is made easier by the fact that Cape Verde has 2 international airports, one in the capital city of Praia, and one on Sal Island.
People come to Cape Verde to dive in the clear water and swim with marine animals like parrotfish, angelfish, groupers, barracudas, moray eels, rays, sharks and sea turtles. Other popular activities include windsurfing, deep sea fishing and hiking.
To go to Cape Verde, American citizens need a passport and a visa. You'll need to apply for your Cape Verde tourist visa in advance. The government of Cape Verde offers two different types of tourist visas. The
