One of the safest and friendliest Middle Eastern countries, Oman is becoming an increasingly popular place to visit. Of course, it’s still not on most people’s radar screens, so if you go soon you’ll still get the thrill of visiting an undiscovered country.
MatadorTrips named Oman as one of it’s “Next 5 Big Travel Destinations,” calling it “cheaper, friendlier, and more interesting” than nearby Dubai. Attractions include gorgeous scenery, castles, mosques and thriving markets.
American citizens visiting Oman need both a US passport and an Omani visa. 30-day, single-entry visas are available at the border for US citizens, or you can apply in advance for a multiple-entry tourist visa.
Here are the documents you need to get an Oman visa:
- Your US passport, which must have at least 6 months validity remaining.
- 2 passport-sized photos
- 2 completed Oman visa applications. These are available online, so you can fill them out and print them.
- If you are not a US citizen, you need to include proof of your US status, like a green card, as well.
If you are applying for a visa on arrival, the US Department of State recommends bringing proof that you have enough money to support yourself and proof that you have an onward ticket, even though it is not technically required.
